Bungalow Clean-up

I bought this 1904 bungalow last fall (2012) and began the exterior clean up in early April of this year. It had not been cared for in what seemed like a century. Chipping and peeling paint on the wood siding and a disgusting porch that no bungalow deserved. I wouldn't even go out onto it, it was that bad. I scraped it all by hand and used the orbital sander (60 grit, then 1,20, then 220). The entire surface of the exterior. I primed it with two-coats of a grey primer (because of the red paint color). Both the front porch and mudroom porch had to be hand scraped (horrible green paint), sanded with the orbital and Ryobi corner cat, hand-rubbed with 3 coats of stain, and top-coated with 3 coats of spar urethane. The posts, railings, and spindles had to be scraped and sanded as well. A bead board ceiling was put on and painted a brilliant white and the handrail had to be fashioned, painted, and finally also coated with the spar urethane. I worked 8-12 hours a day, 7 days a week during the summer months (teacher). All told, it took me from early April until the first week of September to finish just the front of the house (the back of house is next summer)!
